Game 3 Youth Football Results

Written by Dave on September 12th, 2012

The 3-4 grade team I’m head coaching this year went down to Kansas State University’s Bill Snyder Stadium to play an out of league contest over Labor Day. We won 26-6 over a defending league champion to move to 3-0 for the season. They were an all 4th grade team, we are a combined 3rd and 4th grade team.

The game was a little sloppy for my taste. While we only had 2 penalties, we turned the ball over for the very first time this season. We also squandered an opportunity to blow the game wide open by bobbling a snap on 4th and 1 at the opponent’s 10 yard line.

Defensively we tackled well, only missing 2 tackles. Our first team defense only gave up 2 first downs and our backups were scored on on the last play of the game.

Congrats Coach, we beat a very good team this past week that we haven’t beat in 4 years 46-37 to go 3-0. We scored on every posession except 1.This by far though was the worst defensive effort on our part. We allowed 4 td passes by their tight ends on our back up corners as 3 starters did not play due to injury and they also scored twice on broken plays. We were up 34-12 at halftime and had 1 turnover ( they gang tackled my 1 back, held him up and snatched the ball out his hands to run for 1 of their td’s in which the whistle should have been blown. We have alot of work to do on coverage as we face another spread offense this week. We will probably run echo or have our ends play soft from time to time, any advice/suggestions would be helpful! Thanks
