The 3-4 grade team I’m head coaching this year went to 6-0 on the season with a satisfying 49-8 win. The team we played wasn’t very good, but we didn’t play down to their level. We played well and met many of the goals we had for the game.
We didn’t have a turnover for the 5th time in 6 games so far. We had 2 penalties. We scored on every possession excluding where we took a knee at their 10 just before the half and at the 40 at the end of the game. Our first team defense still hasn’t given up a score so far this season, but we did give up 3 first downs in the first half. We had no poor snaps. We played physical and are injury free at this point.
As we prep for the meatier part of our schedule, we were able to play a lot of players early. Four players who had not scored a touchdown, scored today to bring our grand total to 13 different players with touchdown runs. Every player has carried at least 2 times, so parents are happy. I’m glad they are because the team we play this weekend is 4-1, the team we play the following weekend will probably be 6-0 and then to make it to the Superbowl and be the best of 41 teams, we will have to beat 3 more undefeated teams. It’s very doubtful that our backup backs get many carries from here on out and that goes double for our MPRs and linemen.
More posts later on how to prep your teams for this type of end of season schedule.
